Williams-Sonoma, Inc. Room Designer App

This application, the first of its kind, was built in 2005 in Java. It allowed the user / customer to replicate their home environment and add products to the room in order to see how these products would look and fit within their own space. The customization options included paint colors, windows, doors, floors, with the added ability to view the room and products from all angles, change product colors, save their room, share it, or add items directly to cart for purchase. This ability to visualize the product had a profound impact on the way our customer shopped, ultimately serving as a basis for similar applications, current at PotteryBarn, PBTeen, and West Elm.

My role was to manage the team from inception to launch. Responsibilities included strategy, UX, visual design, photo shoots, styling, illustrative renderings of product photos, build management and testing.

The UX and technology from this project was later licensed to companies like Home Depot and Lowe’s, who became the industry leaders in virtual customization in the 2000’s.
